Facilitated Stretching

Flexibility, which is defined as a joint’s ability to move freely in every direction through a full range of motion, is one of the key compo¬nents of fitness. Increasing flexibility is useful for both injury prevention and injury treatment. Facilitated stretching is based on the principles of PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), which consists of three steps: stretching the muscle, contracting it isometrically against resistance, and then stretching it again. This sequence promotes increased flexibility. In a facilitated stretching session, the therapist will support you through a range of stretches depending upon your needs and goals. Sessions last 30 minutes or can be combined with a therapeutic massage or functional training session.
