Functional Training-UPDATED
What is Functional Training? Who needs it?
Functional Training is any type of exercise that has a direct relationship to the activities that you perform in your daily life. Whether you are a triathlete, office worker or a homemaker who wants to carry their children without injury, functional training can help. Functional training has its origins in rehabilitation but you don’t need to be injured to benefit. We will develop exercises that mimic what you do at home, work or in sport training to maximize body potential, recover from injury or remain injury free.
Call today to schedule your FREE movement evalutation and see exactly how functional training can help you.
Why is Functional Training good for you?
• To develop kinesthetic awareness and body control
• To improve muscle balance
• To decrease incidence of injury
• To improve athletic performance
• To improve posture (build “inner strength”)
• To have a positive effect on spinal health
• To enhance movement efficiency (range of motion)
• To improve endurance
• To give a more narrow-waist look (as a result of an improved posture)
• To improve both dynamic and static balance
Evaluations & Programs
Movement Evaluation:
Everyone who wants to train with LifeThyme Wellness must sign up for a FREE movement evaluation. This helps the trainer understand your goals and objectives (or to help you figure them out) and to watch you move through all planes of motion. After this evaluation you will be advised as to which program best will suit your needs and abilities.
Functional Evaluation:
A functional evaluation consists of a comprehensive observation of functional movement patterns and testing muscle length and strength in relationship to those movement patterns. Range of motion in all joints will also be assessed. The evaluation process then drives a therapeutic intervention selection. This evaluation does not diagnose and if the trainer has a concern, you will be referred to an appropriate health care professional.
Functional Training Programs
Small Group Functional Training:
Our small group training classes are limited to 4 clients. A trainer will instruct and guide the clients through the workout and reinforce proper technique. Each session will be designed with the client and group in mind and will be challenging for all abilities. The workouts will include a variety of functional exercises which will touch on all aspects of fitness: cardiovascular, strength, power, endurance, agility, and flexibility. Sessions are ongoing and clients are encouraged to start with 2 classes a week and build up to more days per week as exercises become more familiar and the body becomes stronger.
LifeThyme Bootcamp:
Our bootcamp is a 4 week program, offering fitness and stretching instruction and nutritional counseling. This program is packed with fun and energizing activities designed to help you reach your fitness goals. There will be a combination of cardio, strength and flexibility. Clients will be required to bring a yoga mat and one set of hand weights. Bootcamp is limited to 16 clients and open to all abilities.
One-on-one Training:
One-on-one training is 100% customized to meet the client’s goals and needs. This type of training is ne for those clients with orthopedic injuries with limitations or clients who are recovering from surgery. It is also beneficial for clients who are new to functional training or high performance athletes wanting to obtain the next level in competition. These sessions will cover individualized programs design for home and gym, manual therapies, stretching and nutritional consultation.
